More… If you are a homeowner that resides in York County, and you need assistance to install or procure a smoke alarm for your home, we can help you. If you live in a rental property that does not have a working smoke alarm, please contact your landlord. The County requires that property owners provide a working smoke alarm in each rental unit or property. If you are unable to reach an agreement, contact us at 757-890-3600. For any Fire & Life Safety personnel to install or check alarms or batteries, you must be a County resident. We will also ask you to fill out a Liability Waiver, and we will assist you with a short Home Safety Checklist to identify and reduce potential fire hazards in your home. Once you fill out this form, we will call you to set up an appointment to offer assistance. Our personnel will make every effort to meet the date and time you request.
