Susan Goodwin brings over 20 years of extensive experience in local government, having most recently served as the Director of Finance for the City of Newport News since 2017. In this capacity, she managed Finance, Risk Management, and Procurement, and oversaw the administration of the City’s legacy retirement fund and its billion-dollar investment portfolio. During her tenure, Susan also took on the role of Acting Director of Human Resources and led several major organization-wide projects.
Prior to her role as Director of Finance, Susan was the Financial Services Administrator in the Newport News Department of Engineering and served as Assistant Director of Finance for the City of Suffolk. Her career also includes experience at Goodman & Company, LLP, a regional public accounting firm.
Susan earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Christopher Newport University and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is an active member in the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association and the Government Finance Officers Association.
A native of the Peninsula, Susan has been a York County resident with her family since 2009.
