Digital Counties Award

York County Earns National First-Place Honor for Digital Innovation 
York County has earned first place in the 2025 Digital Counties Survey for counties with populations up to 150,000. This annual survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology magazine in partnership with the National Association of Counties, recognizes local governments that excel in using technology to enhance services, strengthen cybersecurity, and improve transparency. York County was recognized for its strong governance and data quality initiatives, integration of dashboards for planning and decision-making, and the digitization of over one million records using AI technology. “This recognition celebrates more than just IT—it highlights the collaboration, innovation, and service mindset across our entire County government,” said Tim Wyatt, Director of York County’s Information Technology Department. Yorktown Market Days

Fresh Finds and Live Tunes at Yorktown Market Days 
Join us on Saturday, July 26, for a special Yorktown Market Days with two musical performances! Not only can you enjoy the sounds of the Chisman Creek Band from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., but at 10 a.m., The Fifes and Drums of York Town will march through the market. In addition, your favorite vendors will be there, selling everything from local produce and fresh flowers to handmade soaps, ceramics, and more. The market will open at 8 a.m. at Riverwalk Landing. 

End July on a High Note with Bon Journey Live! 
Did you hear the rumor? It’s true, so don’t stop believin’! We’re ending July in a blaze of glory with a performance by Bon Journey! Your presence is wanted – dead or alive – at Riverwalk Landing from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, for our next Sounds of Summer Concert. Playing hits from rock powerhouses Bon Jovi and Journey, we know this band will have you asking, “Why Can’t This Night Go on Forever?!” 

Back to School Supply Drive

Coming Soon: Support Our Annual School Supply Drive! 
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for their Annual School Supply Drive on Monday, August 4 (Tabb Walmart located at 2601 George Washington Memorial Highway,) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to help local children start the school year with everything they need to succeed. From new backpacks and notebooks to pens, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and more, every donation—big or small—makes a meaningful difference for students in our community. Donations can also be dropped off at the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (159 Goodwin Neck Road) August 4-8 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Let’s come together to ensure every child has the tools they need to learn and thrive.   

Additional Notes for the Week… Time is running out to register for the inaugural Colonial Croaker Classic Fishing Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3! Don’t miss your chance to win $500 and catch your dinner at the same time! 
 
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office invites you to attend the Identity Theft and Scams class on Thursday, July 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 159 Goodwin Neck Road in Yorktown. Designed for adults and seniors, this informative session will provide valuable guidance on how to protect yourself and what steps to take if you become a victim of a scam.
