York County Board of Supervisors Adopts FY2026 Budget At this week’s meeting, the Board approved the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget (July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026) along with the tax rates for Calendar Year 2025. The Board approved a 4-cent increase in the 2025 calendar year Real Estate Tax Rate to $0.78 per $100 of assessed value, and a 20-cent increase in the Personal Property Tax rate to $4.00 per $100. York County Administrator Mark Bellamy expressed gratitude to both the community and the Board for their collaboration and engagement throughout the months-long budget development process. Discover Timeless Treasures and Classic Cars in Historic Yorktown Take a step back in time on Saturday, May 10, at the Vintage Market/Car Show on Main Street. Stroll through the market at Riverwalk Landing and hunt for upcycled treasures and unique collectibles from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Then, make your way up to Historic Main Street to admire more than twenty fully restored classic cars on display. The free, accessible Yorktown Trolley will be running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during this event.

Volunteers Needed to Help Protect Waterways Registration for the June 1 Clean the Bay Day is now open for individuals, families, businesses, civic groups, scout packs, and all others to sign up for this three-hour (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) clean-up event, which is a great way to give back to the community and support cleaner waterways. Household Chemical Collection/ Computer Recycling, Paper Shredding Don’t miss this convenient opportunity to safely dispose of common household items and sensitive documents on Saturday, May 10, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Acceptable materials include household maintenance and cleaning products, paints, fuels, automotive fluids, and lawn and garden chemicals. Electronics such as desktop and laptop computers, servers, monitors, cell phones, computer wiring, desktop printers and scanners will also be accepted. A shredding truck will be on-site for residents to securely dispose up to five boxes of personal paperwork. Important reminders: Proof of residency may be required; VPPSA staff will unload your vehicle; Please stay in your vehicle unless instructed otherwise. Road Closures Underway for Repaving Work in Historic Yorktown Road construction and temporary closures are currently in effect in Historic Yorktown as part of a repaving project managed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Contractor crews have begun short-term, full road closures on Alexander Hamilton Boulevard and portions of Cornwallis Road and Ballard Street. Motorists can expect a full daytime closure of Alexander Hamilton Boulevard in both directions, between George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) and Ballard Street, for milling and paving on Monday, May 12, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic onto George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17), Mathews Street, and Ballard Street. Access will be maintained for local businesses and residences. All work is weather-and schedule-dependent and subject to change. View maps of the area and read the press release here.
