Budget Public Hearing; Waterworks Report; Gun Safety Class

Extra Work Session This Tuesday; Budget Public Hearing Next Week
The Board of Supervisors’ has called an additional budget work session, coming up on Tuesday, April 8 (4-6 p.m.), to discuss the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority (VPPSA). There is no public comment during work sessions but the regular meeting, Tuesday, April 15, includes the FY2026 budget public hearing. Starting at 7 p.m., citizens will have the opportunity to share their input with the Board of Supervisors for consideration before the scheduled adoption on May 6. Feedback may also be given by leaving a voice mail message on 757-890-3220, sending an email to the Board at bos@yorkcounty.gov, or by filling out our online question and comment form.  All of the proposed budget documents, FAQ’s and presentations are available on the County’s website.

Annual Water Quality Report

Waterworks’ Annual Water Quality Reports Available 
Waterworks publishes two water quality reports – one for customers in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, York County and part of James City County, and one for customers in the Lightfoot area of Upper York County who are on a separate, freshwater well system. As in past years, the reports reveal no violations of federal or state regulations. The report is available online here or if you would prefer a printed copy, reports will be available at the Yorktown and Tabb Libraries and Williamsburg Library. If you would like request that a water quality report be mailed to you, or if you have any questions or comments, please call Waterworks Customer Service at 757- 926-1000, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.  

Gun Safety Class
Sheriff Montgomery is pleased to offer another Gun Safety class to the citizens of York County & Poquoson who are 18 or older. You will need to bring your photo ID. This free class will be held on April 16, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Building (159 Goodwin Neck). It is not a concealed carry course, although it does meet the safety course criteria required to apply for a concealed carry permit. Please note, this is a lecture only general handgun safety course and not a hands-on course. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of the 2-hour course. Sign up here.

Safety Town

Safety Town Summer Volunteer Opportunity 
Calling all teens and adults, we have a fun volunteer opportunity for you! If you need community service hours and/or enjoy working with kids and are available Monday through Friday mornings this summer, please consider signing up to be a Safety Town volunteers. Registration begins Monday 4/14.  Be a part of this award-winning pre-kindergarten program teaching 5-year-olds important safety skills for school and home. You’ll receive a Safety Town T-shirt and recognition at the weekly Completion Ceremony. For scheduling and consistency, all selected volunteers must commit to at least one entire week of the program. Sounds of Summer Concert Series

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Lineup Set
Dust off those dancing shoes because the 2025 Sounds of Summer Concert Series will begin on Thursday, May 22! This year’s lineup may be the best one yet. It includes everything from country, beach music, Motown, funk, and Journey and Jimmy Buffett tribute bands. The outdoor concerts are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each Thursday at Riverwalk Landing. They are free and open to the public, so come join the fun!
