The York County Department of Public Works, will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on several projects to review and discuss plan information, answer questions, and receive citizen comments.  The public hearing will take place in the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, 159 Goodwin Neck Rd, Yorktown, VA 23692. Project information will be available 30 days prior to the public hearing at request from Elizabeth.Mertz-Guinn@yorkcounty.gov or in person at the York County Public Works Office at 105 Service Drive, Yorktown, VA 23692.

Proposed Trail 757 Segment 1 Project:

The County is working with a design consultant and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to design a 10-foot-wide asphalt shared use path beginning at Oriana Road, tying into the existing trail system at the McReynolds Complex to the Dominion Power line easement and terminating at Harwood’s Mill Treatment Plant. This path will include a pedestrian crossing on Oriana Road, as well as pedestrian facilities including a flashing beacon and curb ramps. This allows for increased walkability in the area and enhances neighborhood connectivity.

If you are unable to attend the public hearing, you may send your comments to Elizabeth.Mertz-Guinn@yorkcounty.gov or call 757-890-3750 by September 2, 2025.  If emailing, please reference “757 Trail Segment 1 Comment” in the subject line.

Proposed Trail 757 Segment 2 Project:

The County is working with a design consultant and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to design a 10-foot-wide shared use path on independent right-of-way, running along the west side of U.S. 17 George Washington Memorial Highway from Ella Taylor Road to Darby Road. The path will account for right-of-way, utilities, and environmental impacts based on available data, and will connect to the eastern end of Segment 1. These allows for increased walkability in the area and enhance neighborhood connectivity.

If you are unable to attend the public hearing, you may send your comments to Elizabeth.Mertz-Guinn@yorkcounty.gov or call 757-890-3750 by September 2, 2025. If emailing, please reference “757 Trail Segment 2 Comment” in the subject line.

Proposed Hampton Highway Intersection Signal Improvements Project:

The County is working with a design consultant and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to redesign the intersection between Hampton Highway and Yorktown Road. This would include updated signal timing and phasing, a dedicated U-turn YIELD/ONLY signal, as well as lane realignment and visibility improvements. This would accent the planned 757 Trail and increase safe travel in the area.

If you are unable to attend the public hearing, you may send your comments to Elizabeth.Mertz-Guinn@yorkcounty.gov or call 757-890-3750 by September 2, 2025. If emailing, please reference “Hampton Highway Intersection Comment” in the subject line.
