For our Teen Tuesday post this week, we highlighted some wonderful young adult fiction books that can help you celebrate Pride Month. Pride is celebrated every June to remember the Stonewall Riots. Today, we will highlight nonfiction books that celebrate the LGBTQ community. Learning more about the community is just one way to be a straight Ally. The straight Ally flag, at right, was created sometime in the late 2000's for people who aren’t a part of the LGBTQA community, but do support them.
Below are some of our favorite nonfiction books highlighting the LGBTQ community:
The Book of Pride: LGBTQ heroes who changed the world by Mason Funk- Gay & Lesbian History for Kids: The century-long struggle for LGBT rights by Jerome Pohlen
- James Baldwin: Groundbreaking author and civil rights activist by Susan Henneberg
- Awakening: How gays and lesbians brought marriage equality to America
- Pride: The story of Harvey Milk and the rainbow flag by Rob Sanders
- Stand by Me: The forgotten history of gay liberation by Jim Downs
- The Gay Revolution: The story of the struggle by Lillian Faderman
- Queer America: A GLBT history of the 20th century by Vicki Lynn Eaklor
